Cold warnings issued in the Maritimes, wind chill values as low as -37 expected this weekend

Environment Canada has issued cold warnings in the Maritimes ahead of a frigid weekend in the region.

New Brunswick

Yellow cold warnings are in effect for all of New Brunswick.

Wind chills as low as -37 are expected from Saturday morning until Sunday morning.

CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell says the bitterly cold conditions are a result of a large storm in the United States and a breakdown of the polar vortex.

Prince Edward Island

Yellow cold warnings are also in place across P.E.I.

Environment Canada says the wind chill will make it feel anywhere from -25 to -30 on the island before moderating a bit by Sunday afternoon.

“Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant,” the warnings read.

“Cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.”

Nova Scotia

Meanwhile, in Nova Scotia, yellow cold warnings are in effect for northern areas of the province.

It’s a similar situation to P.E.I., with wind chill values between -25 to -30 expected.
