Winnipeg crews respond to apartment fire Wednesday night

Winnipeg fire crews were kept busy on Wednesday evening, responding to a pair of blazes in different areas of the city that sent one person to the hospital.

The first incident happened around 7:45 p.m. at a high-rise apartment in the 3200 block of Silver Avenue. The city notes that due to safety concerns associated with high-rise buildings, extra crews were sent to the fire.

Once at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from the building. Crews worked to extinguish the fire, declaring it under control by 8:18 p.m.

Most of the damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was then called to the second fire in a townhouse in the 0-100 block of Tyndall Avenue just after 8 p.m.

When crews arrived at the home, they found smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters then attacked the blaze and had it under control by 8:43 p.m.

One person was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Emergency social services also came to the scene to provide support to displaced residents.

No damage estimates are available for either incident. Both fires are under investigation.
