RM introduces bylaw banning nuisance noise following fireworks complaints

People partying and shooting fireworks in cottage country near Grand Beach could face fines for excessive noise late at night.

The RM of St. Clements recently passed a bylaw banning nuisance noise between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

A spokesperson for the RM says the bylaw spawned from a number of complaints about people using fireworks late at night.

"Over the years, there has been an increasing number of complaints - mostly about firewords and people firing off fireworks late in the evening, disturbing other people's sleep," said D.J. Sigmundson, CAO of the RM of St. Clements.

Fines will range from $100 to $500.

"You come here to relax. Sure, I know people want to have fun, but have fun on proper time," said cottage owner Chester Lobchuk.

Another resident who spoke to CTV News Monday said he believes the bylaw isn't necessary.

The bylaw also restricts noise from power tools, lawnmowers, snow blowers, radios, loudspeakers, and instruments.

Farm activities and emergency alarms are exempt.
