A high-value sports car was towed to the impound lot after its driver was found to be under the influence and violating the rules of her learner’s licence, according to the West Vancouver Police Department. In a social media post Friday, the department said officers have been conducting patrols in the late night and early morning hours following recent complaints of aggressive driving and excessive noise in the Ambleside area. It was during one such patrol around 2 a.m. Monday that police stopped a black Ferrari Portofino that was making “excessive exhaust noise” on Marine Drive. Police say the 20-year-old driver blew two “fail” readings on a breath sample test. In addition, she had a Class 7 licence and was not displaying the required “L” sign. The woman was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impound and tickets for driving contrary to licence restrictions. Those with a Class 7 learner’s licence cannot have any alcohol in their system, must display the “L” sign, and are not allowed to drive between midnight and 5 a.m. Before the Ferrari was taken away, police say the passenger got into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away. “The 49-year-old male drove approximately 10 feet before officers intervened. He provided two ‘warn’ readings and was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition,” the WVPD wrote. Police reminded drivers that vehicles cannot produce noise over 83 decibels under provincial regulations. “We encourage drivers to operate their vehicles in modes that comply with these regulations and enjoy their vehicles responsibly while in the community and on public roads,” the post reads.
