Duo charged in connection with 2024 death of baby: Police

Two people have been charged in connection with the 2024 death of a baby in Innisfil after a lengthy investigation.

A Barrie man, 31, is facing a manslaughter charge and a Barrie woman, 26, is being charged with failure to provide the necessities of life.

South Simcoe police say they were called to a home on Algonquin Avenue for medical service on Nov. 8, 2024.

When they arrived at the home, they say they found a four-month-old without vital signs. The baby was transported to RVH in Barrie before being transported to Sick Kids in Toronto.

Police say the baby died in hospital on Nov. 10, 2024 due to injuries from Nov. 8, 2024.

During the investigation, police say they gathered enough evidence to show there were several criminal offences. In collaboration with several units of the police force, they gave out multiple warrants at a home in Barrie on Wednesday.

The accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.
