Manitoba Hydro warns customers of ‘bill is ready’ email scam

Manitoba Hydro is advising residents to read their emails carefully as a new scam is going around.

Manitoba Hydro is warning customers are being targeted in an online scam.

The Crown corporation said an email mimicking its “bill is ready” is being sent to some customers.

Hydro said the email appears to look like a legitimate message from the utility but noted there are some noticeable differences.

Hydro said customers should only reply or click on links from emails sent from [e-mail].

Hydro said customers should also ensure addresses and account numbers are spelled out correctly.

“If this information does not appear correct, customers should not reply or click on any links provided and delete the email,” Hydro said in a news release.

The utility said customers with an online account can log in through a web browser or the Manitoba Hydro app to confirm if a new bill has been issued or to check their account balances.
