Manitoba First Nation’s new band office destroyed by arson: RCMP

RCMP are investigating a fire at a Manitoba First Nation’s new band office as a possible arson.

Oxford House RCMP was called just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning to a report of a fire at Bunibonibee Cree Nation’s band office - a community about 160 kilometres southeast of Thompson, Man.

Officers arrived to find smoke coming from the building. It quickly engulfed in flames and was destroyed, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Mounties say their preliminary investigation found the cause of the fire was incendiary, and it’s being treated as arson.

CTV News Winnipeg has reached out to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs for a comment.
