The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating after a fire broke at the Walmart at St. Vital Centre Monday evening. The city said firefighters were called to a commercial building fire in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road just after 7 p.m. Photos and video show flames coming from one of the aisles and smoke billowing to the ceiling. The city said the fire had been mainly extinguished by the sprinkler system by the time crews arrived. Firefighters finished extinguishing the fire and ensured it hadn’t spread anywhere else in the building. Both St. Vital Centre and Walmart Canada said in social media posts that the store will be closed until further notice. “We are thankful that all Walmart staff and visitors were evacuated safely, everyone was accounted for, and no one was injured,” St. Vital Centre said in a post. The city said no damage estimates are available at this time.
