A man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant tried to escape police by running into a wooded area and climbing a tree. Members of the Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) attended a residence on Sweetgrass First Nation on Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. after getting information that a man on an outstanding warrant was there. When officers arrived, they spoke with someone who confirmed the man was inside the home. When he became aware police were there, he left through a back window and ran into a nearby wooded area, the SMS said in an update Wednesday. The Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Canine Unit, Battlefords RCMP, and Sweetgrass First Nation security officers were called in to assist, and a drone was used to support the teams on the ground. The PPS Canine Unit and Marshals began tracking the man through the wooded area and located him around 1:14 p.m. Officers were able to arrest the man after he attempted to escape police by climbing a tree. The suspect sustained a minor scratch on his foot from the police service dog during the arrest but did not require medical treatment. Sweetgrass First Nation is located about 170 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
