Extreme heat prompts warning as severe thunderstorms expected

Environment Canada issued heat warnings for parts of south central Manitoba Sunday saying temperatures in the 30s combined with humidity will make it feel like 42 degrees Celsius.

The warnings are in effect for Winnipeg and areas north to the interlake, west to Portage La Prairie, east to Steinbach and south to the US border.

Environment Canada says heat illness can affect everyone but older adults, children and people with chronic illnesses are at particular risk.

The conditions are also expected to bring severe thunderstorms to much of the province Sunday.
