Eight people were taken to hospital Thursday morning following a fire in a three-storey apartment building. Crews were called to the 0-100 block of Furby Street just after 3 a.m. for reports of a fire. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building and they helped people escape. The fire was declared under control by 4:20 a.m. Paramedics on scene treated nine people—eight of whom were taken to hospital, one in unstable condition. One firefighter was also treated for minor injuries, but they didn’t require a hospital visit. Temporary shelter was provided while the people who lived there worked to find other accommodations. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating the blaze.
