Dale Hawerchuk statue in Winnipeg gets Whiteout makeover

Senior Vice President of Venues and Entertainment Kevin Donnelly, explains how there’s a charity component to whiteout parties

A statue of Winnipeg Jets legend Dale Hawerchuk in downtown Winnipeg is celebrating the Winnipeg Whiteout.

The statue, located in True North Square, was seen sporting a white jersey as the Winnipeg Jets faced the St. Louis Blues in game 2 of the first round of the playoffs.

According to True North Sports and Entertainment’s Kevin Donnelly, the one-of-a-kind jersey was created for the statue to wear on each and every game day.

“So, home or away, Dale will be wearing the jersey,” he said in an interview with CTV Morning Live on Monday.

Donnelly noted they had to piece together three jerseys to create this one for Hawerchuk, adding that it’s “a bit Frankenstein-y but it looks fantastic.”

The statue was unveiled in 2022 to honour Hawerchuk’s legacy. Hawerchuk died in August 2020 following a battle with cancer.
