Starting Wednesday, Phase 2A of the Wellington Gateway construction project begins (weather permitting). Officials say this is the last stage of major work along the south Rapid Transit corridor. Long-overdue underground infrastructure is being replaced and upgraded, while new rapid transit improvements are being built along Wellington Road at the same time. These underground upgrades include watermains, sewers, and other utilities. Traffic at the Commissioners Road and Wellington Road intersection will be shifted to the west side of Wellington Road and the south side of Commissioners Road. One lane in each direction will remain open, with reduced lanes on Commissioners Road. The sidewalk on the east side of Wellington Road will also be closed. Access to the hospital and local businesses will be maintained during construction. Traffic will be staged to keep key access points open, and pedestrian access will remain available on one side of the road. These changes will be in place from May through Summer 2026.
