We’re off to a soggy start to the week in Winnipeg and much of southern Manitoba.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement Monday morning for south-central and southern Interlake regions, including Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Gimli.

The weather agency forecasts 30-50 mm over the western Red River Valley and southern Interlake by Tuesday morning. Even 60 mm can’t be ruled out in places.

Other areas, including Winnipeg, will get a solid soaking, too. ECCC forecasts 10-25 mm this afternoon in the city, with another 10-20 mm possible tonight.

In the southwest, Brandon could see as much as 15 mm this afternoon before taping off this evening. Killarney could receive 10-25 mm today and another 5-10 mm tonight.

Basically, this band of rain will inch slowly east this afternoon before stalling out and pivoting tonight, dumping a lot of precipitation into Tuesday morning.

Rain will continue on Tuesday morning before moving out of Winnipeg in the afternoon.

Areas furthest east and northeast as far as Island Lake will see rain or showers persist into Tuesday afternoon as they also spread into Kenora.

By Tuesday night, showers will reach Gillam.

The precipitation will miss the rest of northern Manitoba. In fact, as temperatures fall Monday afternoon in the southeast, they will rise across the north into double digits.

Wednesday will be this week’s bright spot with sunshine in Winnipeg, before more showers could return as early as Thursday night.

Ghosts and goblins could be trick-or-treating in showers on Friday, too.
