Manitoba weather: Cooler temperatures, and snow on the way

Sunshine continues over Winnipeg and southern Manitoba Friday, courtesy of a surface ridge of high pressure over the province.

Forecast daytime highs are a little cooler in much of the south than we’ve become used to lately, but still unseasonably mild.

For perspective, temperatures will reach 1 C or 2 C Friday afternoon in Winnipeg, compared to 5 C on Thursday. Cooler, sure. But the normal high for this time of year is just -4 C. Friday night’s overnight low will be milder than that, dropping off to just -1 C.

In the southwest, Brandon and communities further south will reach sunny highs closer to 4 C. Areas north of the Wheat City will see cooler highs around the freezing mark.

Northern Manitoba will remain below freezing Friday, with light snow grazing several communities further north, while areas further south will mostly be cloudy.

Temperatures around northwestern Ontario will hover around the freezing mark under a mix of sun and cloud.

Ahead of Friday night, southern Manitoba will cloud over before sunshine returns Saturday.

Temperatures are set to soar 10 degrees above normal in Winnipeg on Saturday and Sunday, with sunny conditions and forecast highs of 6 C.
