More than a dozen stolen vehicles were recovered when the Waterloo Regional Police Service dismantled a chop shop in Cambridge. In March, investigators began looking into allegations about an illegal vehicle salvage operation, commonly called a ‘chop shop,’ on Eagle Street. Officers armed with warrants searched the Cambridge building on May 7, along with a home in Kitchener. They found 18 stolen vehicles, many of which had already been stripped for parts. A 51-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Kitchener, were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.
