Weather conditions are calmer Tuesday following the first major storm of the fall season in Manitoba over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Many parts of the province were walloped with rain, snow, or strong winds between Sunday morning and Monday overnight, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

The weather agency noted that Snow Lake and Thompson received 35 cm and 20 cm of snow, respectively.

The Pas was soaked in 67.5 mm of precipitation, which ECCC reported as a rain or melted snow liquid equivalent.

Behind the system, wicked wind gusts whipped up over southwestern regions Sunday night, as strong as 87 km/hour in Minnedosa and 85 km/h in Brandon.

After the snow, sunshine will return to northern Manitoba on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the south will be cloudy, with the strongest possibility of showers in the southwest corner around Melita.

Daytime highs across the province and in northwestern Ontario will remain in the cool single digits.

Sky conditions Tuesday night will be quiet across all regions, with overnight lows close to the freezing mark.

Prepare for a soggy rest of the week in Winnipeg. Wednesday will be dry during the day before rain is expected at night.

Rain or showers are likely to continue at times in the city until Saturday.
