WPS searching for suspect vehicle in Amherstburg arson investigation

The Windsor Police Service is calling for the public’s help finding a suspect vehicle in connection to a weekend arson investigation.

Just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, crews were called to a fire at a vacant home in the 200 block of Cowan Court, Amherstburg.

The fire was quickly put out by the Amherstburg Fire Department with no physical injuries reported. Damages to the building and an adjacent property was an estimated $750,000.

Police said it’s believed that a black luxury SUV could be connected to the incident. It was seen in the area around the time of the blaze.

Anyone who lives nearby is asked to check surveillance or dashcam footage between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Saturday for any evidence.

The WPS said the incident comes after two other arson investigations at the same house. Almost $4 million in damages were sustained in what officers call a “deliberate fire” in September 2023. In September 2024, another incident took place at the house, resulting in an estimated $1.6 million in damages.
