N.S. man charged with attempted murder after violent assault in Digby County

A 33-year-old man is facing 18 charges, including attempted murder, after a violent assault in Belliveau’s Cove, N.S., last week.

Meteghan RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a home on Belliveau Lake Estate Road around 3:10 p.m. on April 9.

“A man was safely arrested at the home and a victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries,” said the RCMP in a news release Friday.

Police did not release any details about the victim.

Daniel Joseph Weir of Belliveau’s Cove is facing 18 charges, including the following:

• attempt to commit murder
• aggravated assault
• two counts of assault causing bodily harm
• three counts of assault with a weapon
• four counts of assault
• failure to comply with a release order

Police say Weir was also arrested for outstanding warrants associated with unrelated investigations.

Weir appeared in Digby provincial court on April 10. He was remanded into custody and is due back in court on April 23.
