Windsor’s Polish community marks 100 years of heritage and independence

Windsor’s Polish community spent the weekend celebrating a century of culture, pride, and independence.

A special wreath-laying ceremony was held Sunday afternoon in front of Dom Polski on Langlois Avenue, part of the Polish Peoples’ Home Association’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

The ceremony honoured generations of members and volunteers who have helped preserve Polish traditions in Windsor, coinciding with Poland’s Independence Day.

“This is a special occasion, and we are very happy to the previous members, to the members, to the volunteers, to the directors because, you know, thanks to them, we could celebrate that 100-year anniversary because they work very hard,” said Polish Club president Hanna Piasecka.

Weekend events also included a festive banquet and masses at Holy Trinity Church and Dom Polski.

Piasecka said the club remains a vital meeting place for Windsor’s Polish community and a symbol of pride for those who have called it home for generations.

The Polish Peoples’ Home Association was founded in 1925 and continues to serve as one of the city’s oldest cultural organizations.
