Windsor correctional officer charged with sexual assault of inmate

A corrections officer who was working at the South West Detention Centre has been charged with sexual assault. CTV Windsor’s Michelle Maluske reports.

A correctional officer in Windsor has been charged with sex assault of an inmate at a local detention centre.

The Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation earlier this month after receiving information that a female inmate had allegedly been sexually assaulted at South West Detention Centre.

The alleged offences are reported to have occurred between May and November 2025, while the officer was assigned to supervise female inmates.

After an investigation, Christopher Rylett, 47, was charged with sexual assault and breach of public trust (x3).

Police say to protect the identity of the victim and preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

“Given this matter is before the court, no further information can be provided,” the Ministry of the Solicitor General added in a statement to CTV News.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted or victimized is urged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
