The Windsor Police Service has charged a 37-year-old man for allegedly assaulting three people, including a police officer. Just after 11 a.m. on Sunday, police were called with a report of an assault at a convenience store in the 300 block of Ouellette Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they said they learned a man went into the business and pushed and punched two customers without being provoked. The WPS said the suspects and victims didn’t know each other. The suspect ran from the scene and into a restaurant on Chatham Street East. He was seen on video surveillance kicking the front door multiple times, until glass shattered. Officers were able to find the man nearby. During the arrest, the man allegedly became combative, assaulting a police officer. A taser was used to gain control of the situation, leading to the man’s arrest. The victims and police officer sustained minor injuries. The man is now facing two counts of assault, one count of assaulting a police officer, resisting a peace officer, and mischief under $5,000.
