Officers cleared of wrongdoing in Chatham SIU investigation

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has been cleared of any wrongdoing in an incident in Chatham that led to an SIU investigation.

On November 26, 2025, the SIU said a 34-year-old man was arrested for drug trafficking after a traffic stop. A search warrant was executed on the man’s home for evidence and crack cocaine and fentanyl were seized.

The suspect was taken to the police station, where a search of his clothes was done, with negative results.

While in a jail cell, the man reportedly began throwing up and was diagnosed with opioid withdrawal in hospital.

After investigating, SIU Director Joseph Martino says there is no reasonable grounds pointing to criminal offenses committed by the CKPS.
