Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has ended months of speculation, confirming he intends to seek a fourth term. Dilkens told reporters Thursday he plans to file his nomination papers Friday -- the deadline to enter Windsor’s municipal election. “I’m going to be filing tomorrow, so stay tuned for more information tomorrow,” he said. The three-term mayor said he deliberately held off entering the race while council worked through several outstanding issues. His confirmation came after the city announced Thursday it has begun the process of expropriating 45 boarded-up, vacant or derelict properties in Olde Sandwich Towne. Dilkens described that file as an important issue he wanted council to move forward before turning his attention to the campaign. “You’ve heard me say many times, as you guys ask me every time,” Dilkens told reporters. “Every time I say I’m too busy being mayor and doing the important work of governing, I’ll get to the election at the right time.” Dilkens has served as Windsor’s mayor since 2014. Eight other candidates have also entered the race for mayor.
