It was a car show unlike many others. Dozens of Porche’s lined up with a backdrop of aircraft at the London International Airport. “This is celebrating Sports Car Together Day for Porsche,” said Lakmina Ebbinghaus who is in charge of events for Porche Club of America’s Upper Canada region. “It’s a worldwide event celebrating both the brand and the car culture in every country that we represent around the planet”. This event had race cars, sports cars and ones that have been in Germany, Italy and from across North America. Londoner Jared Arand brought five of his personal cars. “You are looking at 2010, GT3 RS which is kind of a cool car,” said Arand a former employee at Porche London who now owns his own business. “There are not very many of them. So that’s a 1991 911 and a 1989 911. We’ve tried to have a few different generations to show off today”. The event partnered with FLYXCITE to use the airport hangar as well as the area next to the runway. This event supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its work supporting children with serious illnesses and their families. “It helps raise money so we can grant wishes for every child waiting for a wish,” said Demetria Drakos, a long-time volunteer with Make-A-Wish. “It also helps raise awareness. It gets our name out to new people who might not be aware of us. There are lots of kids who love cars, and some of their wishes could be to sit in a porch or get a ride in a Porsche”. The event had food trucks, airplanes taking off and cars representing every brand of Porche in all 78 years. “You’ve got air cooled, you’ve got water cooled, you’ve got GT3, you’ve got 911. every single flavour,” said Ebbinghaus. “We’ve got cars representing every era of Porsche and also representing every value of Porsche. We’ve got a couple Porche’s here that are worth over $250,000”. Arand has five different cars he’s collected over the years. He says this brand has entry-level cars at a price point of $20,000-$30,000 all the way up to multi-million-dollar cars. “The other cool thing about most Porsches is they hold their value really, really well,” said Arand. “You can buy this car, drive it for years, and you usually kind of get your money back out of it and the same can’t be said about a lot of other sports cars. You can own the car, enjoy the car, go to events like this and then it’s not maybe as expensive as I think a lot of people think that it might be”.
