Things to do in Metro Vancouver on Mother’s Day weekend

Whether you’re celebrating Mother’s Day or just enjoying spring, there’s plenty to do in Metro Vancouver this weekend. Here are some options to check out.

Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration

Two weeks of bird-centric events kick off this weekend.

The “hatching” ceremony of the 2025 Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration is happening Friday night at Coal Harbour Community Centre, and dozens of free and ticketed walks, workshops and presentations are scheduled through May 25.

Saturday is the busiest day on the schedule, as it marks World Migratory Bird Day. A full schedule of events can be found on the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration website.

Mother’s Day Traditional Pow Wow

The Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council is hosting its Mother’s Day Traditional Pow Wow at John Hendry Park and Trout Lake Community Centre in East Vancouver this weekend.

Drumming and dancing will take place outside the park’s southwest baseball diamond, and organizers are also planning a vendor village, elder room and meal service inside the community centre.

Hong Kong Fair

Head to The Shipyards in North Vancouver on Sunday for the Vancouver Hong Kong Fair, described by organizers as “the largest Hong Konger cultural celebration in Canada.”

Featuring a market with Hong Konger artisans and small businesses, cultural performances and exhibitions and food booths, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission to most of the fair is free, but there is a $3.50 admission charge for the market. More information can be found on the fair’s website.

WWF Climb for Nature

BC Place will play host to a major fundraiser for the wildlife charity WWF–Canada on Saturday, inviting participants to climb up and down the stairs of the stadium’s lower bowl in the Vancouver edition of the annual Climb for Nature.

The charity run begins at 10 a.m., and funds raised benefit WWF–Canada’s Regenerate Canada initiative.

Southridge Country Fair

An independent school in Surrey is hosting its “country fair” on Saturday, inviting the public to enjoy carnival games, peruse a vendor market and a “large-scale family garage sale,” ride a zip line and more.

Southridge School is located at 2656 160 St. in Surrey. The free fair is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
