A local bakery known for creating allergy-friendly cakes in Wellington West will be closing its doors for good next spring. The Cake Shop will serve up its final confection in March 2027, owner Nadine Hecht said in a statement. Located at 1200 Wellington Street West, the bakery has been serving up 100 per cent peanut- and tree nut-free desserts for more than a quarter of a century. “For 26 years, we have been part of our customers’ birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries,” said Hecht, who is planning to retire. “We baked for families who had never been able to walk into a bakery and simply choose a cake. That trust is what we are proudest of.” Hecht says her shop was the first to offer peanut and tree-nut free celebration cakes in the region. The Cake Shop will continue to operate until next March 31, 2027, just after Easter weekend. “We want to spend these final months doing what we love: baking and saying thank you to the community that carried us,” Hecht wrote.
