Suspect arrested after extortion shooting in Abbotsford, police say

Police in Abbotsford have arrested a suspect after an extortion-related overnight shooting at a business.

Abbotsford police arrested a suspect after an extortion-related shooting at a business in the city Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the 31000 block of King Road around 10:45 p.m. and confirmed a shooting had taken place.

They “promptly shared critical details,” including a description of a suspect vehicle, with other on-duty units, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a news release Thursday.

No one was injured in the shooting, police said.

Among the other units made aware of the shooting were the Abbotsford department’s Gang Crime Unit and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service, according to the release.

A member of the police dog service notified the gang unit of a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle description, which had been spotted eastbound on Highway 1 near Whatcom Road, police said.

Gang unit officers were able to arrest the driver without incident, police said, adding that he remains in custody pending charge approval. Police did not share the suspect’s name, as charges have not yet been laid.
