Police in Port Moody say six electric vehicle fast chargers were vandalized outside the city’s recreation complex Tuesday, and they’re asking the public for help as they investigate the crime. Officers were called to the facility on Ioco Road around 1 a.m., the Port Moody Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. Security workers reported that “numerous EV charging cables had been cut,” and that sensors had alerted them to the damage, according to the PMPD. “Officers attended the scene and noted six of the cables had been cut and subsequently stolen, rendering the fast-chargers inoperable,” the release reads. Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the vandalism or has information about the incident to contact them. “We are in the evidence gathering phase of this investigation, which includes canvassing for possible CCTV footage,” said Const. Sam Zacharias, in the release. “The chargers are currently out of commission as BC Hydro works to repair them.” The PMPD non-emergency phone number is 604-461-3456.
