Man arrested after crashing stolen car into police vehicle in Langford, B.C.

A man has been arrested in connection to an incident in Langford, B.C., that involved an unsuccessful traffic stop, a brief escape and a collision with a police car.

According to a release by West Shore RCMP, a patrolling officer had come across a car with inactive insurance and a licence plate reported to be stolen just after midnight, June 22.

The officer attempted a traffic stop on the grey, 2002 Chevy Malibu, found in the area near Jacklin and Rex roads, but the driver didn’t stop, police said.

Police installed a blockade near the 2600 block of Sooke Road, where the suspect’s adventure was forced to a halt as he crashed into a police car.

“Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries as a result of this incident, particularly as the incident unfolded during the late-night hours,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Michael Bruce, 36, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Bruce is due for a court appearance in July.
