Homicide investigators identify 45-year-old man who died in Surrey

Homicide investigators were called to Surrey after a man died from his injuries on March 21, 2026.

Homicide investigators have identified a 45-year-old man who was found unresponsive in Surrey’s Green Timbers area over the weekend, and say his death is considered suspicious.

Police say they were initially called to the 9800 block of Foxglove Drive at around 11:15 a.m. Saturday, where firefighters and paramedics were already on scene treating a man with unspecified injuries.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the man was declared dead at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken conduct of the case, but said Monday the man’s death has not been confirmed as a homicide yet.

A man who was initially arrested has been released without charges as investigators “have had an opportunity to understand his involvement in relation to the incident,” according to police.

IHIT has identified the deceased as 45-year-old Zachery Rider, a Lower Mainland resident.

Police believe the incident was isolated and carries no ongoing risk to the public.

“Investigators continue to work diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the death,” IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said in a statement Monday. “A number of witness interviews are ongoing as we establish the deceased’s background and a timeline of his arrival to the area. Anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Rider is urged to contact IHIT right away.”
