A motorcyclist is recovering in the hospital following a crash in Mississauga on Thursday evening. The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Sorrento Drive. “Preliminary reports and witnesses suggest that someone was trying to make a left-hand turn into the path of that motorcycle, and he took an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision, and unfortunately lost control,” Peel police media relations officer Tyler Bell told CP24. He said the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Bell noted that the motorcyclist is in stable condition. When asked if charges would be laid, Bell said it was too early to tell at this time. “Obviously, there are some mitigating and aggravating factors that need to be taken into account. He was avoiding a collision. Whether or not the person was making a safe left-hand turn, we don’t know yet,” Bell said. “It’s a good reminder to motorists to make sure that when they’re preparing to make a left turn across any traffic, you got to pay attention to the traffic and not the colour of any traffic lights. It’s your responsibility when making a left-hand turn to do so without coming in to the line of oncoming vehicles.”
