Windsor police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect wanted related to a sexual assault in a parking lot. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 3600 block of Wyandotte Street East shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 1. When they got there, officers say they found a woman in distress. An investigation determined the woman had accepted a ride from an unknown male driving a newer-model, light-coloured compact SUV near Wyandotte Street East and Marentette Avenue. Police say the suspect reportedly drove the woman to a nearby commercial parking lot, where he physically and sexually assaulted her. Officers say the victim was ejected from the vehicle as the suspect sped off, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a light-skinned Middle Eastern male, approximately 20 to 30 years old, standing 5′4″ to 5′5″ tall, with a slender build, side-parted hair, no facial hair, and a slight accent. Investigators with the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit reviewed available surveillance footage and located video of the suspect vehicle in the area. The video is being released in the hope that someone may recognize the vehicle or help identify the suspect. The suspect is wanted on charges of sexual assault, assault, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident, the suspect, or the vehicle involved is asked to contact the CASA Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4903. If you or someone you know is an affected person in need of support, please contact Victim Services of Windsor and Essex County at 519-723-2711 or the Windsor Police Service Victim Assistance Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 7179.
