Toronto police chief dons Dodgers jersey, congratulates winning team, as L.A.’s top cop lauds city for ‘incredible World Series run’

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw posted a photo of himself wearing a Dodgers jersey on social media on Sunday, fulfilling the friendly bet he made with the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Chief Jim McDonnell to do so if his city’s team won the World Series.

“We all enjoyed this World Series battle on the field between two great teams. We also value the partnership and friendship between our teams in policing,” Demkiw wrote in a post addressed to the City of Los Angeles, the L.A. Dodgers, the LAPD, and McDonnell.

In response, Los Angeles’ police chief congratulated Demkiw, Toronto Police Service, and the “entire” city of Toronto “from one proud city to another” for an “incredible World Series run!”

“The Blue Jays showed grit, heart, and serious talent on the field, and your city should be buzzing with pride. It takes a championship spirit to make it that far, and Toronto brought it,” McDonnell wrote, adding “in the spirit of good sportsmanship—and great baseball—I tip my cap to your team and your fans.”

“Now, I won’t pretend we’re not celebrating here in Los Angeles. The Dodgers delivered, and this city is glowing blue with excitement. ... Here’s to the power of sports to unite cities, spark joy, and stir up a little friendly rivalry.”

He added that he looks forward to seeing Demkiw in a Dodgers jersey, saying that they’ll keep the Blue Jays jersey ready for “next year’s rematch.”

“Go Dodgers—and nothing but respect for Toronto and the Blue Jays!“ McDonnell said.

Demkiw went on to say that he is “looking forward to doing this against next October”

”Wishing your city and members a safe and successful parade!,” he said in a post on X.
