Why Toronto brunch fans keep lining up for this comfort food spot

If you’re looking for a spot that takes brunch seriously, Dirty Food Eatery is for you. Five days a week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. the popular Junction spot takes pride in serving inspired brunch with a twist.

The joint is known for inventive takes on brunch staples like Eggs Jenny, a play on eggs benedict served on a biscuit, which are baked fresh daily, or Apple Jonnycakes, cornmeal-buttermilk pancakes filled with cinnamon apples.

Co-owner Leslie Wilks told CP24 that Dirty Food Eatery has been serving up their unique take on brunch items since 2016.

“We’ve been here almost 10 years now,” she said. “It’s just sort of like a casual brunch spot with a focus on comfort food.”

Other unique items include the jalapeno popper grilled cheese, a take on the popular bar snack, and their baked and fried home fries.

Wilks, whose co-owner is her partner Jon, said family plays a big part in the restaurant’s inspiration. The Eggs Jenny, for instance, is named after her sister.

Since brunch is their focus, Dirty Food Eatery has perfected the art that mean, serving it up five days a week. However, they’ve recently started introducing Friday Night Dinners, a special series with a set, coursed menu and price. Reservations are required for dinner but aren’t accepted for brunch.
