Tanker truck pulled out of large sinkhole in Toronto’s Weston neighbourhood

No injuries have been reported after a truck became stuck in a sinkhole beside an apartment building in Etobicoke.

A tanker truck that had been swallowed by a sinkhole in Toronto’s Weston neighbourhood has successfully been pulled out after more than six hours.

Toronto Fire Services tell CTV News Toronto they were called to 2360 Weston Rd., near St. Phillips Road, shortly after 8 a.m. for reports of a structural collapse involving an underground parking garage at a high-rise building.

Chopper footage just before noon on Tuesday morning shows the vehicle nearly completely submerged in the sinkhole, that is wedged between two residential buildings.

Officials say nobody was trapped from the incident, adding there were no reported injuries.

Firefighters were able to stabilize the scene and engineers are monitoring the building.

Building inspectors have also been notified.

Just before 2:45 p.m., crews were able to pull the sewage truck out with the help of a massive tow truck.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes at Weston Road, between St. Phillips Road and Oak Street, remain blocked.

CTV News Toronto contacted the city for comment.

This is the second large sinkhole to form in the city in recent weeks, with one plaguing a busy intersection in Toronto’s east end throughout the last week of August.
