A motorcyclist has died following a collision in Scarborough late Sunday afternoon. The crash happened in the Eglinton East neighbourhood, near Eglinton Avenue East and McCowan Road. Toronto police say they were called to that area at around 5:50 p.m. for reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a car. Insp. Dan Pravica later said officers from 43 Division arrived at the scene and located a male motorcyclist suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported by paramedics to a local trauma unit, the duty senior officer said, where he died a short time later. Pravica said it appears that the motorcyclist was travelling eastbound on Eglinton Avenue, while the driver of the motor vehicle was heading westbound and turned left, striking him. All involved parties remained on scene, police said. This collision is Toronto’s 38th traffic fatality of the year. Few details are being released about the victim as police work to notify his next of kin. Intersection closed due to investigation The intersection is expected to be closed for some time as Traffic Services works to determine exactly what happened, Pravica said. It is not known at this point if speed was a factor, he added, noting roads in that vicinity were dry at the time of the collision. Police area asking drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes. They’re also advising them to expect traffic delays.
