Driver dies in hospital days after rear-end collision in North York

A 40-year-old man has died four days after his vehicle collided with a backhoe tractor in North York.

A man critically injured in a rear-end collision between an SUV and a tractor in North York last week has died, Toronto police say.

The collision happened shortly after 2:40 a.m. on Friday in the area of Weston Road and Fenmar Drive, north of Finch Avenue West.

Police said a 40-year-old man was reportedly driving a Mitsubishi RVR northbound on Weston Road at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of a backhoe tractor.

After being extricated, the Mitsubishi driver was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 46-year-old driver of the tractor sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized.

On Monday, the Mitsubishi driver was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Police said the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
