Boy, 16, latest suspect charged in deadly Danzig St. shooting

TORONTO -- Toronto police have made another arrest in connection with the brazen shooting at an east-end block party last summer that left two people dead and more than 20 wounded.

A 16-year-old boy -- who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act -- faces several charges, including threatening death and weapons-related charges.

The teen's arrest Tuesday follows that of a 17-year-old youth who was charged last month with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the multiple shooting on July 16.

The 17-year-old, who also cannot be identified, faces 22 counts of aggravated assault and one count each of attempted murder and recklessly discharging a firearm.

Two older teens are also facing murder charges in connection with the mass shooting that came during a neighbourhood barbecue outside a public housing complex on Danzig Street.

The shootings killed Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23. Police say the two victims were innocent partygoers.

Shaquan Mesquito, 18, the first person charged with murder in the case, faces two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault.

Nahom Tsegazab, 19, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and 22 counts of aggravated assault. He was charged earlier this year with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Investigators have said they believe a snub at the barbecue touched off the deadly violence between members of the rival Galloway Boys and Malvern Crew gangs, and that several people fired shots during the melee.
