Argentina can dream of a first men's World Cup title since 1986 after defeating Croatia 3-0 in the semifinals.

Lionel Messi scored one goal and provided a spectacular assist in between a thrilling solo goal by Julian Alvarez.

Croatia's hopes of redemption after losing the 2018 World Cup final end as Luka Modric also leaves soccer's biggest stage.

This is an Argentina side that has certainly rode brilliant performances from Messi, but the rest of the team has been in inspired form as well in reaching the final.

HALFTIME

Argentina are 45 minutes away from the World Cup final after taking a 2-0 lead. Croatia looked the better side through the opening 30 minutes but there was an element of misfortune to both the penalty decision and Alvarez's run that now leaves them with a mountain to climb.
