The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) has charged a 43-year-old woman following an eight-hour standoff earlier this week. On the morning of Tuesday, June 30, residents were asked to avoid the 2500 block of Melrose Avenue as a situation developed. Officers attempted to arrest a woman in the area on outstanding warrants, Saskatoon police said in a news release. However, she refused to leave the home, which led to a sustained police presence in the area. The woman was eventually taken into custody by members of the Police and Crisis Team (PACT). She was released from custody and admitted to hospital under the Mental Heath Services Act. In a news release Thursday, the Saskatoon Police Service said the woman is now facing charges, but it did not disclose what they were.
