Two U of S Huskies named Canada West Players of the Week

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team defeat the UBC Thunderbirds 51-14.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team continues to win on and off the field.

Following a dominant 51-14 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds Sept. 5, two Huskies - quarterback Anton Amundrud and kicker Lukas Scott - have been recognized for their play in the game.

Amundrud has been named the Canada West Football Offensive Player of the Week.

The fourth-year pivot torched the Thunderbirds, throwing for four touchdowns, including a pair to wideout Daniel Wiebe.

Scott was named Canada West Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

The second-year kicker made four of five field goals and was five-for-five on extra points, accounting for 17 of the Huskies’ 51 points. He also averaged 47 yards per punt.

“Both Anton and Lukas had great games for us, they were called upon a lot, and they both played at a high level,” Huskies’ head coach Scott Flory said.

“That’s the standard that we expect from them both, because they have the capability to do so,” he added.

Amundrud and Scott are the second and third Huskies football players to be recognized by Canada West this season. Linebacker Seth Hundeby was named the Canada West Defensive Player of the Week following a Week 1 victory over the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Saskatchewan’s next game is Saturday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Winnipeg to battle the winless University of Manitoba Bisons.
