Sun setting on TCU Place name as venue winds down agreement with TCU Financial

TCU Place, Saskatoon’s marquee downtown event centre and theatre, is on a quest to find a new name.

The venue formerly known as Centennial Auditorium announced Monday afternoon the curtain will be closing on its naming agreement with TCU Financial Group, after 20 years in partnership.

TCU Place says it was a joint decision made with an eye to the future, as Saskatoon plans for a massive downtown arena and entertainment district on its doorstep with an updated and renamed TCU Place as a cornerstone.

“This is a planned transition that builds on a strong legacy and positions TCU Place and Saskatoon for the future,” Tammy Sweeney, CEO of TCU Place.

The agreement is scheduled to sunset at the end of the year, giving TCU Place some runway to plan the transition.

“While the naming rights will change, our appreciation for TCU Financial Group’s contribution does not end. We look forward to celebrating the legacy it leaves behind, as we remain Saskatoon’s premier gathering place.”

Sweeney says the downtown venue, home to over 100,000 square feet of event space and a soft-seat theatre with over 2,000 seats, is well situated for whatever comes next.

“TCU Place enters this next chapter from a position of strength, generating approximately $44 million in annual economic impact, supporting hundreds of local jobs, and serving as a cornerstone of Saskatoon’s cultural and business community,” she said.

“The organization is also integrally involved in the planning for the downtown event and entertainment district, creating exciting opportunities for future growth and partnership.”
