Sask. RCMP seek tips to find suspect after shooting on Yellow Quill First Nation

RCMP are looking for a man after a shooting early Saturday morning on Yellow Quill First Nation.

At around 4:35 a.m., officers from the Rose Valley detachment responded to a report of a shooting in the community located about 300 kilometres east of Saskatoon.

Police found a man injured outside a home who was then taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police also found a vehicle at the scene that had been damaged by fire.

Police say the suspect fled before they arrived. Yorkton RCMP Police Dog Services were called in to help search the area, but the man has not been found.

Police have issued a warrant for 26-year-old Kain Cheechan of Yellow Quill First Nation.

He is charged with several offences, including discharge of a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He also faces a charge of arson causing damage to a motor vehicle and two counts of possession contrary to an order.

Cheechan is described as five-foot-seven and 176 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

RCMP warn the public not to approach him and to call police with any information.
