If you’re headed out on the water or to the beach on Saturday, while it’s sunny and warm, thunderstorms could be headed our way. Environment Canada has issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch alerting of possible thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon into the evening in much of the Simcoe County region. The national weather centre is warning of particularly windy conditions getting up to 90 kilometres per hour along with large hail that’s the size of a toonie. Power outages are possible and the potential for damage to property. “When thunder roars, go indoors,” says Environment Canada. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.” According to the national weather centre, the region will be under a mix of sun and cloud with highs reaching to 26 C and the humidity will make it feel like 29 C. You’ll want to have your hat and sunscreen on hand as the national weather centre warns of a UV index of 7 or very high. With the shower and thunderstorm risk continuing into Saturday night, the low will be 14 C. The humidity will break and many will be swapping their sunglasses and shorts for umbrellas and pants. Sunday brings more seasonal weather as the temperature drops around 9 degrees to a high of only 17 C. Clouds will also move into the region with an increased chance of rain and thunderstorms. Conditions really cool down in the evening with a single-digit low of 8 C.
