Ottawa police say a man was arrested at the Rideau Centre on Friday after he was seen brandishing a fake gun in the mall. CTV News witnessed the man was wielding what appeared to be a firearm in the food court on Friday evening. In a statement, Ottawa police said they responded to several calls reporting the incident at 7:55 p.m. Police say they seized a replica firearm and a knife, and no members of the public were injured in the event. An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance and breach of probation. “The Ottawa Police Service continues to encourage all members of the public who see something concerning to call 911,” police wrote. Cadillac Fairview, the owners of the Rideau Centre, said its security team acted immediately to secure the area and is working with the Ottawa Police Service. “We remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for our community,” Anna Ng, director of corporate communications with Cadillac Fairview, said in a statement.
