Wharncliffe Road South was closed for several ho urs Saturday morning between Commissioners Road and Belmont Avenue after a car slammed into a hydro pole. The front end of a white SUV is destroyed and is parked up against a pole in front of the Finch Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership on Wharncliffe Road. EMS, fire and police all responded Saturday morning to reports of a car into a pole. Witnesses on scene told CTV News it is believed the driver was heading south on Wharncliffe and had a medical emergency. They veered onto the sidewalk and struck the pole. The driver was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. London fire has cleared the scene as London Hydro worked on repairing the pole. While CTV News was on scene, multiple drivers were seen going around police and fire blockades. “This is a reminder for all motorists that pulling around emergency vehicles when the road is closed is highly dangerous for you as well as all emergency responders,” said Platoon Chief Colin Shewell of the London Fire Department. “We had a number of vehicles pull around our apparatus this morning at the scene and drivers need to be more vigilant”. The Finch dealership has posts separating the sidewalk from their lot, and none of their vehicles were damaged in the crash.
