Sask. man charged after driving stolen truck into police vehicle

A man is facing multiple charges after driving a stolen truck into a police vehicle in Little Red River.

Officers were called to the community on the morning of June 12 for reports of a truck reported stolen.

Police located the truck parked outside a home in the community.

Police positioned their vehicles around the truck, but as an officer was getting out, the truck reversed at a high rate of speed and struck a police vehicle, RCMP said.

The driver fled on foot before being arrested at the scene. No one was injured in the incident, but the police vehicle was damaged and could not be driven.

RCMP say officers later searched the stolen truck and found a sawed-off firearm and a knife.

Jeremy Gardiner, 27, of Île-à-la-Crosse, is charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and several weapons-related charges.

He made his first court appearance in Prince Albert provincial court on June 15.
