RCMP perform traffic blitz in northern Saskatchewan

Traffic services officers from southern Saskatchewan completed a proactive safety campaign in the province’s north earlier this week.

The Saskatchewan RCMP says officers from Regina, Prince Albert, Estevan, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw conducted check stops from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 in La Ronge, Stanley Mission, Grandmother’s Bay and Missinipe, checking for unsafe driving behaviours.

According to the RCMP, officers performed breathalyzer tests on 494 vehicles, issued 134 tickets, and gave 335 warnings.

Police say one driver was charged with impaired driving and nine were given roadside licence suspensions for drug or alcohol consumption before driving.

One vehicle fled from police. The RCMP say that case is still under investigation.

“Whether on a snowmobile or on the road, driving sober is crucial for keeping the Saskatchewan public safe,” said Insp. Lee Knelsen in a news release Friday.

“RCMP will be out on roads and trails ensuring the public is driving safely and make it home at the end of the day.”
