Prince Albert urban park closed due to elevated river flows

The City of Prince Albert says Little Red River Park has been closed as a precautionary measure due to elevated river flows.

In a news release, city officials point to seasonal snowmelt and forecasts that suggest river flows could increase over the weekend and into next week as temperatures warm.

“City staff are actively monitoring conditions daily and consulting with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the Water Security Agency, and other agencies on preventive measures and flood protection strategies,” the city said.

The city says water levels in the park are currently manageable, but the temporary closure is meant to protect public safety and allow crews time to prepare if conditions change.

Residents are being asked to respect the closure, follow posted signage and avoid entering the park until further notice.

The city says updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
